Alumni Association vs. Education Foundation

There seems to be some confusion out there in the W-L alumni community between the W-L Alumni Association and the W-L Education Foundation. People will send donations to the Foundation, thinking that makes them members of the Alumni Association. Although we are sister organizations with a common clientele, communicating with W-L alums, attempting to enhance the student and alumni experience, furthering the name of this great institution, we are completely separate organizations.

Indeed, we are both duly authorized 501(c)(3) organizations, so all contributions to either are tax deductible.

The W-L Foundation does its work to provide financial assistance to current and future W-L populations:

  • Provides criteria-based scholarships to graduating W-L seniors
  • Offers scholarship renewal for all who continue to meet Foundation criteria
  • Provides Faculty fellowships
  • Raises money via its annual mailed brochure, and a website which allows on-line donations
  • Cooperates with current school administration to keep the long tradition of academic excellence alive
  • Has its own website: http://www.wlhsfoundation.org

The W-L Alumni Association orients itself much more toward the W-L alumni population, although we also support current school activities:

  • Maintains the Alumni website (you are currently reading it), which includes:
    • The Alumni Database, providing up-to-date contact information for alums
    • The Faculty Database
    • Announcements of upcoming Alumni Association activities
    • Reunion status
  • Supports senior class with donations for graduation events
  • Supports the W-L Foundation with an annual scholarship donation
  • Represent the association at select school/community/county events
  • Provide tour materials for reunion classes to run their own tours of the new facility
  • Collects and maintains W-L historic artifacts, including a complete collection of yearbooks, Crossed Sabres, sports and student memorabilia (donations of W-L memorabilia are always welcome)
  • Collects money via annual/lifetime memberships and unsolicited donations

We hope this page has been instructive. Both are worthy organizations, and you can rest assured that any donations to either will go to keeping that General Spirit alive.
